Periodontal disease is a progressive disease.  It involves receding gums and destruction of the bone supporting your teeth.  Usually it is slow to develop with little or no discomfort until reaching an advanced stage.  More teeth are lost due to periodontal disease than any other cause.   Advanced periodontal disease has also been shown to affect your overall health.

Early detection and treatment is important, and for this reason, all of our patients over the age of 18 receive a full mouth periodontal probing to screen for periodontal disease.  Treatment recommendations are based on this and other findings.

We provide treatment for most cases of periodontal disease.  However, if you do not respond well to treatment or if you have a very advanced case, we will refer you to a Periodontist, a specialist in the treatment of gum disease.
